How The ProLoggerSM
Sustainable Forestry Initiative®
Element Works

20 Units = ProLogger
SM List

Loggers who accumulate 20 Units (Generally, 1 hr = 1 Unit) including the 17 basic course units described later plus three" elective units" will be included on a published ProLogger list. Elective units must come from ACL endorsed programs which will normally be available at the logging conferences, ACL functions or provided by CDF or others.

8 Units Annually

Once you've qualified for the ProLoggerSM List, eight elective units per year will keep you current. Generally, qualified sessions will be available at ACL meetings, logging conferences and other functions.

The ProLoggerSM Series
Basic Course Requirements

Three one-day courses covering:
Best Operating Practices (now a correspondence course)
Business Practices
Risk Management

Best Operating Practices  (6 units)
A refresher session on the requirements of the Forest Practices Act and Rules, plus newly developed material on "silviculture for loggers" designed to help understand what landowners and foresters are up to. A new ACL developed THP check list is used as a method to avoid trouble and hidden costs.

Business Practices  (5 units)
A class that presents logging specific material on managing your outfit by a specialist in small business management and finance. Learn how to keep track of your business' health to be ready to seize opportunities or avoid being a fatality. In addition new ACL developed material will be included to help you.

Risk Management (6 units)
This class provides a broader approach to managing risk including compliance with State and Federal OSHA requirements, updating your safety plan, First Aid/CPR for owners and supervisors, and new ACL developed material on injury avoidance through exercise and improved nutrition. Also, learn more about how to manage your claims for optimum insurance rates and a lower "experience modification".

To be presented by ACL staff, Members or Associates. Credit: 6 Units

You do not have to be an ACL member to earn
ProLogger credits or appear on the ProLogger list.

ProLoggerSM IS A SELECT GROUP

So far 422 outfits have participated in the ProLogger Training Program with (57) of them qualifying as ProLogger's.

Participants will be able to acquire additional elective units throughout the year and subsequent additions to the list will be made as warranted. A minimum of (8) Continuing Ed units are needed annually to maintain the ProLogger status.
